Types of Powder
I am a fan
Ranger products due to it's superior quality and wide range of powder that covers shiny to metallic to puffy to texturized to glitzy types of finishes!
Ok, this may be overwhelming for beginners crafters so I am going back to some basics first to talk about this technique.
This technique is also called wet embossing which requires a heat gun to properly melt the powder. NEVER USE HAIR DRYER to heat as it will just blow off all the powder.
After stamping on an image on paper, it is still two dimensional basically. So, to give a more three dimensional effect of the stamped image, the powder is added immediately after stamping (use slow drying pigment ink or versamark) before ink dries up.
Use heat gun to heat and melt the powder and this technique will give a texture to your stamped image and the effect will depend on the type of powder you use.
This technique will be shown in the last section, featuring the video of "How to do Stamping".

My Personal Preference
Most of my powder is from Ranger except for a few colors that either Ranger doesn't carry or just too popular to be in stock!

If you are new to this hobby and is starting out rubber stamping, the MUST-HAVE is the clear powder. This is versatile and is the basic necessity for this technique as you can use clear powder for image and words. |

Other good basic colors to have includes the following:
Embossing powder is a start and next, you can explore other more exciting types and colors (such as Embossing Pearl, Puff, Ultra Thick and much more by Ranger) that is recommended to be used with Versamark Watermark Stamping Ink.
Here are more range of powder I have and I think it's fun to explore:
My other "special" powder include my own "concoction" of differing colors which you may want to try:
Mix clear powder with contrasting glitters, proportion should be approximately 3/4 of clear powder and 1/4 of glitter.
Mix sparkle or holographic or silver and copper, proportion approximately 2/3 of copper and 1/3 of sparkle or holographic or silver. The specs of sparkle or holographic or silver (depending on which you use) gives a little highlight to the otherwise dull copper. Add shimmer to it in a subtle way.
I have a tub that is a mix of different colors. It's good for rugged embossed look and depending on the mix you have, the effect is either dark or light in color.
Hope this is helpful. Have fun embossing, especially seeing how the powder transform into a 3D effect!
