Unique Christmas Card Ideas
Tried experimenting a different color combination for this Christmas cards. I still wanted to achieve a very vintage look and although there is no hint of red and green (traditional Christmas colors), I wanted to make sure it still feels very much like Christmas.
Materials
- 1 dark brown cardstock for card base
- 1 cream cardstock
- 2 matching pattern papers. I have used a floral pattern paper and matching blue colored polka-dots pattern paper
Tools
- Foam tape
- Glue/Glue Dots
- Hero Arts C2849 “Merry Christmas and a Happy New Year” woodmounted stamp (shown below)
- Silver pigment ink
- Cream ad brown trim ribbon
- Wool blended fiber in shades of black, silver, grey
- Vintage Floral Button
How To Instructions
- Cut floral pattern paper approximately 10.5cm X 9.5cm and blue polka dot pattern paper approximately 3cm X 9.5cm.
- Align the two pattern papers one after another and layer over cream cardstock leaving border of 0.1cm around it. Trim off access cream cardstock. It measures approximately 9.7cm X 13.7cm now.
- Stamp “Merry Christmas and a Happy New Year” on the bottom pattern paper.
- Layer light brown ribbon over the pattern paper, to cover the gap between the two pattern papers. Tuck excess behind the cream cardstock.
- Twirl different wool fiber and secure the button and layer over the light brown ribbon. Tuck excess behind the cream cardstock.
- Cut brown cardstock 20cm X 14cm, score at 10cm mark and fold to create a single fold card base.
- Layer the whole design over the brown card base using foam tape.
Slight variation and additional suggestion
- Instead of using the conventional ribbons for your projects, try using fiber, wool or even extra yarn from your knitting projects.
- Vintage buttons are a little hard to find. If you are serious about enjoying this hobby for a long time, start keeping those nice buttons from your old clothing you intend to discard. They will come in handy some day.
Hope you like this card suggestion. Something really different from the usual Christmas cards.
